After the amazonian forest, the more extensive tropical forest of America
is in the center and the south of the Yucatan Peninsula, occupying part of the
territory of Mexico, Guatemala and Belize. The present reserves of the Mayan Biosphere,
Calakmul and Ri'o Bravo, try to protect the greater nucleus of the Central American
forest.
Fog forest:
Colindando with the strip of the coast
of the Pacific, is raised from El Salvador to Chiapas, extensive zones of forest
where the fresh climate of the plateau contrasts with humid and the warm one of
the coast. Lakes of volcanic origin sprinkle the impressive volcano chain, some
of them exceeding the three thousand meters of height, that rise on the ample
vegetal layer that climbs on its slopes. In Honduras, the Reserve of the Patuca
River and the National Park of Cusuco show the greatness of the forest dimmed
with great variety of species of pines, firs and other coniferous furrowed by
the impetuous currents of crystalline water rivers.
