Tulum Ruins
The
Tulum name comes from the word of Yucatan "wall". It
is probable that the city the name of the original one
was something like Zama or "the place of the dawn",
that has sense when you see the sites? dramatic Vista
towards the east. The site probably took care of the
Classic period Early (ANNOUNCEMENT 250-600), but very
probable it did not develop in an important city until
it spread Late classic (1200-1530). In the century 13
Tulum it had bonds with Mayapán, and it was still to
prosper to deal the community when the Spaniards arrived.
The first Spanish sailors when seeing that the city
of Tulum was so impressive they said and compared with
the city of Seville. Tulum remained occupied by several
decades after Conquista, longer than other places in
the coast. He was truely worrisome in 1890 - 1910, by
a sector of breakaway Mayan Talking de la Cruz. They
were directed by a high woman "priestess" that had the
rituals in the temples of the castle. When you enter
the ruins can see the walls that surround it. In fact,
Tulum was one of the few walled Mayan cities. The opinions
differ if this were a defensive measurement or a barrier
to separate the royalty and the ceremonial center of
the rest of the city. The bilingual guides are available
near the entrance to the ruins, you will very find most
of them to be informed and to be amused. The ruins of
Tulum are open all week, 8:00 - hours 17:00. Sundays
the entrance is free.
