To only five kilometers
to the south of Akumal, in the way towards Tulum, is
the national park and lagoon of Xel Ha East natural
fresh water aquarium and salty it is populated by infinity
of tropical fish. Here fish can admire themselves from
multicolors perico to mantarrayas. There is a small
archaeological site crossing the highway. Xel Has can
be visited in a day and counts on all the services,
except lodging. Nearer populations: Cancún, Beach
of the Carmen, Tulum.

The Xel-Ha expression
is a combination of Mayan terms that mean "water
entrance", alluding to the geography of the place,
a creek, although that name was granted by the Spaniards,
not knowing itself if it were really the original name.
The site was used by old Mayan in the pre-Hispanic stage
like given port the its particular geographic location,
and was one of the points of importance for the marine
traffic of merchandise and goods. The first references
on the zone date from 1527, year in which the Spaniards
arrived at the place, to that called Salamanca de Xalá
in reference to a small indigenous establishment thus

be related to the marine activity of the zone.

One of the legend of
the region tells that to that amazing place faith created
by the Gods Mayan, uniting its love and wisdom to create
the most wonderful site on the Earth, naming to the
species iguana and Dark-brown fish like "the guardians
of Xel-Há" .

of Xel-Há seemed to have developed between 600
