XEL HÁ

To only five kilometers to the south of Akumal, in the way towards Tulum, is the national park and lagoon of Xel Ha East natural fresh water aquarium and salty it is populated by infinity of tropical fish. The Xel-Ha expression is a combination of Mayan terms that mean "water entrance", alluding to the geography of the place, a creek, although that name was granted by the Spaniards, not knowing itself if it were really the original name. The site was used by old Mayan in the pre-Hispanic stage like given port the its particular geographic location, and was one of the points of importance for the marine traffic of merchandise and goods.
