Imposing

Extention
The municipality of
Cozumel comprises 647,33 square kilometers; representing
1.27 % of the state. It includes the adjacent island
of Cozumel amd other small barren islands and keys;
in the continental zone, the CALICA facilities and the
Ecological Park of Xel-Ha are located. The island is
around 39 km in length and an average width of 12.8
km.
The whole coast of the
island has sandy beaches crowned with the beautiful
turquoise sea color. Hotel zones exist on the North
Beach and in the South Zone and has several waterparks
scattered along the coast. Chankanab Lagoon, located
to the south of town, is a body of water connected by
an underground tunnel to the sea, where marine fauna
and flora can be observed as in a natural aquarium;
around the lagoon is a botanical garden with representative
vegetation of the region and on the coast, approximately
100 meters from the lagoon, lie coral reefs and the
submarine statue of a virgin. It is a protected natural
area Xel-Ha. Is Located on the peninsular mainland,
Xel-Ha is a tourist center of exceptional beauty with
a great variety of flora and marine fauna that can be
observed, in addition to archaeological remains of the
Mayan culture. It may be considered the largest natural
aquarium in the world, with stores, restaurants and
a marine museum.
