The quintanarroense folklore,
little well-known, is influenced by three areas in which
their vicinities or their internal conformation, give to
characteristics differentials him. In the North zone, the
influence of the state of Yucatan is let feel in music,
dances (jarana), festividades (vaquerías)... In the zone
center, the Mayan community with his conserved traditions,
it is the purest representation of the Mayan folklore and
oldest through his music the "Mayan Pax", of his articles
to dress, their dances and songs of the religious ritual.
The South zone, of recent population, is dominated with
the musical aspect by the Bruckdown that brought of Belize
first settlers of Chetumal and, that turned Zambay or celebration
musical of Zambos, as people denominate to of town and,
that came to give in the modern times the Male Zambay that
is executed with accordion, guitar and violin, with an own
appearance. Nevertheless nowadays, the Reggae and the Calypso,
rates of the Caribbean, are pleased.
Quintana Roo, as all town has culture, which shows as social
answer before the challenge to continue existing and presents
it through its folklore. These customs, are expressed within
their peculiar characteristics in celebrations which they
synthesize the feelings of the pain and the joy Creole and
racially mixed the towns, that sing and dance by any social
event, popular or religious, where execute dances and dances,
that show the daily task of the different social groups,
like the hall dances, sones and jaranas.
With these considerations, we wished solely to show restlessness
that have arisen by desire to rescue and to construct our
identity, that allows us to have characteristics unmistakable
by regions that next we presented/displayed with more detail:
Procesión.-- It is a solemn stroll of religious
character, accompanied with song and music; this one is
made every year traditionally. In her it is sung "praised",
hymn to Christ King, and when finishing they leave caught
a candle, causing therefore a spectacle worthy to see themselves.
Dance of the pig head. - This dance, at the pre-Hispanic
time, comprised of one of the dedicated offerings to the
Gods. At the present time the same essence is executed in
honor to santo patrono of the place, conserving, but with
greater religious attachment.
The pasacalle.- - It is a slow dance of three times
to the popular march of the alive compass, that executed
the high and accommodated social class of half of the century.
It is characterized to take an extremely elegant cadence
where the step valseado with the variant of a step crossed
flexionado alternate closings predominates without the composure
is lost.
The calabaceado one. - It is a dance of hall eight
times to the popular march of alive compass that executed
the high and accommodated social class of half of the century.
Fandango.- - It is a glad dance very common in Spain
and is formed by several sones that dance themselves combined
with jarana passages. In our peninsula the jaranas are the
danceable sort that predominates in the three states, although
in each one they are different by its form to execute it.
Jarana Quintanarroense. - They are sones which they
arise from the fusion of the native thing, religious and
profane; in addition to being agile and elegant zapateado,
product of that mixture of sonecitos, with the invasion
of that great cánova Andalusian, without lacking
the accent valseado of jota Aragonese. Despite the jaranas
they are those that predominate in the Yucatan Peninsula.
In each one of the states that conform it, the jarana is
characterized by its form of execution.
Dance of the chicleros.- It is this dance, is the
form characteristic of diversion of the chicleros, somewhat
huraños robust men who worked in the forest in the calls
campings or cattle ranches. The chicleros showed the form
characteristic of diversion in where a single woman with
them danced. It did not lack some that it wanted to take
advantage of or to offend, settling a duel to machete blows
that almost always managed to calm. This dance has its mediate
antecedent in the Brok Dow that transported to our earth
acquires very peculiar characteristics.
Male Sambay.-According to some people it is the loveness
of libélula male to the female. According to others, it
is a dance of resistance, credible thing by the vigor of
his rate and the rapidity of his movements.
Popurri. - As its name indicates it is a set of the
dances more characteristic than they arrived until this
Mexican region mixes of melodíes and sones that finish with
the well-known "degollete".
